Set Up Payees

A payee is anyone that you would like to send money to, be that a company or a person. Once your payee is added to the system, you can schedule a payment.

Automatic Payments

You can set up an automatic payment rule and your payment will be automatically scheduled and sent out based on your specific instructions.

Reminders

A reminder is a simple way to never lose track of when your next payment is due. A reminder does not mean your bill will be paid automatically.

Payment History

Payment history allows detailed searches for past and scheduled payments and eBills, as well as sort, download, or print information on the payment history page.

eBills

An eBill is an electronic copy of your paper bill that you can view anytime from within the Bill Pay service and typically contains the same information as your paper bill or statement.

Funding Account

A funding account is the account that will be debited when making a payment using the Bill Pay service.

Payment Processing

Three different kinds of payments are made to your payees: electronic payments and two different types of check payments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the payment limits for Bill Pay?
Minimum $1.00, maximum $99,999.99 (per transaction)

Q: Can I make any type of payment I want?
There are some prohibited payments. Those are: tax payments (local, state, and federal); court ordered payments

Q: Who can I pay?
Payments can be made to any legal entity within the United States and its territories (APO, FPO, Guam, US Virgin Islands)

Q: I scheduled my payment appropriately, but I still got a late fee. Do I have to pay that?
Fiserv (the company that provides our Bill Pay service), covers any late-payment related charges (up to $50.00) should a payment arrive after its deliver-by date, as long as you scheduled the transaction in accordance with Fiserv’s terms.

Q: What are the cutoff times for Bill Pay?
Cutoff time is 9:00 pm Central, but some payees (to whom you’re paying the bill) might have an earlier cutoff time. If you make a payment by the payee’s cutoff time, the earliest Deliver By date is 1 business day (if Fiserv can send an electronic payment) or 5 business days (if Fiserv has to send a check).

Q: I have recurring payments set up. What happens when they fall on a holiday or weekend?
Sometimes a payment date for an automatic payment falls on a non-processing day. When this occurs Fiserv process that payment on the previous banking business day. You will receive an email notification prior to that occurring.

Q: If I do not have enough funds in my accounts, will you still pay my bill?
We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If you have Overdraft PrivilegeSM Service we will release the funds and you will be charged an overdraft fee from First Citizens in accordance with our Schedule of Fees. In this case yes, your bill will be paid. If you do not have Overdraft PrivilegeSM Service, your bill may or may not be paid, depending on the type of payment sent from Fiserv, the type of business, and if they have an existing relationship with Fiserv. If Fiserv pays the bill and you do not have sufficient funds, you may receive an Insufficient Funds letter from them. Please note that too many instances of insufficient funds may result in your Bill Pay account being frozen, meaning you will not be able to use Bill Pay until Fiserv receives their funds. If you are unsure whether you have Overdraft PrivilegeSM Service, please contact a Personal Banker.
