Attention Graduates (and everyone else): Did you make your bed today?

Graduation has finally come! It’s not only a milestone for students, it’s also a milestone for the family and friends who have supported them. It’s a time to celebrate as graduates enter the next chapter of their lives to find their passions, chase success, and thrive in the real world. Graduation ceremony speeches offer great tips for the new graduates out there, but they also offer the rest of us some big-time inspiration too.
On May 17, 2014, Admiral William McRaven gave the commencement speech for the graduating class from the University of Texas at Austin. He delivered some key advice on success… starting off by making your bed.
Why should you make your bed? As McRaven said in his speech: “If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you’ll never be able to do the big things right. If, by chance, you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that’s made. That you made. And a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.”
